چکیده

Background T1-mapping, directly measuring the underlying longitudinal relaxation times (T1), and extracellular volume (ECV) quantification, are emerging techniques for myocardial fibrosis quantification. Recent studies have reported significant T1 differences in fibrotic and normal tissue, but whole-heart T1-mapping is rarely performed in clinical practice, due to the associated time-consuming data acquisition; this can lead to sampling error when the fibrotic process is not homogenous. Signal acquisition over multiple heart beats can also be problematic, due to the potential for motion artifacts. In this study, we present a rapid whole-heart T1-mapping in a single breath-hold of, e.g., 6 heartbeats (typically, 5-7 seconds for total 9 T1 maps).

Comparison of T1 mapping techniques for ECV quantification. Histological validation and reproducibility of ShMOLLI versus multibreath-hold T1 quantification equilibrium contrast CMR

BACKGROUND Myocardial extracellular volume (ECV) is elevated in fibrosis or infiltration and can be quantified by measuring the haematocrit with pre and post contrast T1 at sufficient contrast equilibrium. Equilibrium CMR (EQ-CMR), using a bolus-infusion protocol, has been shown to provide robust measurements of ECV using a multibreath-hold T1 pulse sequence. Newer, faster sequences for T1 mapp...

Simultaneous three-dimensional myocardial T1 and T2 mapping in one breath hold with 3D-QALAS

BACKGROUND Quantification of the longitudinal- and transverse relaxation time in the myocardium has shown to provide important information in cardiac diagnostics. Methods for cardiac relaxation time mapping generally demand a long breath hold to measure either T1 or T2 in a single 2D slice. In this paper we present and evaluate a novel method for 3D interleaved T1 and T2 mapping of the whole le...

Single breath-hold 3D mapping of T1 and T2 relaxation times with 3D-QALAS - feasibility in patients

Background A novel method for 3D interleaved T1 and T2 mapping of the whole left ventricular myocardium within one breath hold, 3D-QALAS, has recently been developed [1]. The method has been evaluated both in phantoms and in healthy volunteers showing a good correlation to reference relaxation time mapping methods. The aim of this work was to investigate the feasibility of the method in patient...

Modified Look-Locker inversion recovery (MOLLI) for high-resolution T1 mapping of the heart.

A novel pulse sequence scheme is presented that allows the measurement and mapping of myocardial T1 in vivo on a 1.5 Tesla MR system within a single breath-hold. Two major modifications of conventional Look-Locker (LL) imaging are introduced: 1) selective data acquisition, and 2) merging of data from multiple LL experiments into one data set. Each modified LL inversion recovery (MOLLI) study co...

Joint myocardial T1 and T2 mapping using a combination of saturation recovery and T2 -preparation.

PURPOSE To develop a heart-rate independent breath-held joint T1 -T2 mapping sequence for accurate simultaneous estimation of coregistered myocardial T1 and T2 maps. METHODS A novel preparation scheme combining both a saturation pulse and T2 -preparation in a single R-R interval is introduced. The time between these two pulses, as well as the duration of the T2 -preparation is varied in each ...
